2024 Redeemer Men’s Retreat
Texas Baptist Encampment
100 First Street Palacios, Texas 77465

RETREAT OVERVIEW:

On Friday & Saturday evenings we will participate together in worship, prayer, listening to speakers, learning together in small group conversations, and camaraderie. On Saturday morning/afternoon we will have three (3) different recreational activity options for fellowship: fishing, golf, and an organized historical tour around the Palacios area. We will conclude on Sunday morning with a communion service at sunrise followed by breakfast. We will then depart for Manvel in time to re-join our families for the 10:45am service at Redeemer Church.

2024 RETREAT THEME/TEACHING:

Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come here to me." They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the LORD, which had been torn down. 1 Kings 18:30

In the Bible, the altar was the place where man could encounter God.  At the altar, people made commitments to God, expressed their gratitude to God, and did business with God (seeking forgiveness).  Simply put, the altar was a physical place that represented the spiritual practice of keeping God at the center of our lives.  And the fire on the altar represents the work of God in our lives.  William Booth, who founded The Salvation Army, said, “The tendency of fire is to go out.  Anyone who has tended a fire knows that it needs to be stirred up occasionally.”

This makes sense: our passion for God can grow stale, the fire of the Holy Spirit can fade.  Occasionally, we need renewal: we need opportunities to “stir up” the fire within us. Sometimes, the best way to keep the fire on the altar of our hearts fresh and alive is to “retreat” – to step back from the day-to-day and lean into God.

We invite you to join us at the Redeemer men’s retreat.  As men, we have many important responsibilities, but none more important than leading ourselves and our families in the practices of encountering God, serving Him, and discipling those around us.  Join us as we take some time to repair our altars and rekindle our fires.
